It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through 2018 already. The theme of this month’s magazine is ‘get serious about play’. Sometimes as busy parents we can get consumed with our family’s schedules and commitments and forget the importance of carving out some time for ourselves, to kick back and have fun. The recent Songkran celebrations with water fights on the street were the perfect opportunity to unleash our inner child and indulge in some purely joyful fun, though I will never understand why the water must be ice cold!It's important too that our kids see us as fun people — they learn so much more from what we do than what we say. So being willing to step outside our comfort zones and prioritize fun and exploration is good parenting behaviour to model, and also lets us act like big kids once in a while, so everyone wins. I was reminded of this recently on a trip to Disneyland in Hong Kong when I was gently persuaded by my son to ride the Space Mountain roller coaster. I must say I’m not a fan of thrill rides, but I did it and had so much fun that I queued up and did it again right after. Sometimes we can surprise ourselves with what we are capable of when we let loose and have fun, so make some space for play! The chores can always wait.Enjoy May!Emma, BAMBI Vice Chairwoman View PDF
